Checkpoint Six/GTA 6 Map/Vice City

Vice City: the city everyone thinks they know

Twenty-four years of nostalgia have built a Vice City in people’s heads — neon, pastel suits, a radio locked to 1986. The city in the GTA 6 footage keeps the neon and burns the rest. This is what Rockstar has actually shown: a modern metropolis wearing its Art Deco bones like jewellery, satirising today’s Miami as sharply as the original satirised the ’80s.

Two faces of the same city

The postcard

The sun and fun capital of America

The beachfront strip is where the nostalgia gets paid in full: Art Deco hotels in sherbet colours, roller skaters, muscle beach, a boardwalk economy of cocktails and bad decisions. Rockstar’s own tagline for the city — the sun and fun capital of America — belongs to this face of it. This is the Vice City of the trailers’ daylight shots, and it is the part of the map everyone will drive first.

What the postcard is printed on

Behind the strip, the footage shows a different animal: a dense downtown of high-rises and freeways, an international airport, working docks, strip malls, and neighbourhoods the 2002 game never dreamed of. The premiere’s party scenes, club interiors and street-level chaos all live here. This is the Vice City that makes VI’s version a real city rather than a resort — the place where the story’s money actually moves.

Not 1986 anymore — and that’s the point

The original Vice City was a period piece — Scarface and Miami Vice compressed into a playable postcard. The new one is a present-day satire, and its targets have changed accordingly: influencer culture, livestreamed crime, real-estate hustle, nightlife as content. The people Rockstar has attached to the city tell the story — Boobie Ike turned street reputation into real estate, a strip club and a recording studio; Dre’Quan Priest is building a rap label out of it; Real Dimez monetise crime as content. That is not an ’80s cartel economy. It is 2026’s.

The Spanish you hear in the streets is real, too: Leonida’s Vice City is bilingual by default in the footage — a detail the 2002 game gestured at and this one commits to.

What nobody outside Rockstar knows yet

How big Vice City is against Los Santos — unknown; the honest reasoning lives on our map page. How many interiors are enterable, whether the airport is walkable, what the district names are beyond what trailers signpost — all unknown. Community cartographers have stitched impressive guesses from trailer frames, and some will prove right, but none of it is confirmed, and this site does not publish leak maps. What is certain: Vice City is one region of six, and the game’s state-sized ambition means the city has to share the spotlight it once owned outright.

Your first night in the city

On November 19 you get one first drive down that neon strip, and it only happens once. Our spoiler-safe map opens with the game: districts fill in as you reach them, businesses appear as you find them, and nothing about Vice City is spoiled for you by your own companion app.
