Checkpoint Six/GTA 6 Price

The GTA 6 price: what it actually costs

Two numbers have been sitting on the storefronts since June 25, and yet half the internet still argues about a third one that never existed. Here is the whole picture: both editions, everything inside them, where the $200 story came from — and the one honest way to pay less.

Why $79.99 is the real story

For a year the discourse said Rockstar would use GTA 6 to drag the industry to $100 games. Then pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026 — and the Standard Edition landed at $79.99. Ten dollars above the old standard, twenty below the panic. The Ultimate Edition at $99.99 is where the three-digit price actually lives, and it is optional by design: Rockstar has confirmed you can buy the Ultimate content as an upgrade after launch, so choosing Standard today closes no doors.

One thing worth saying plainly, because the deals sites will not: there is no Special Edition and no Collector’s Edition. If a listing offers you one, it is not selling what it claims.

Where the $200 rumour came from

Not from Rockstar. In early 2025 an analyst mused publicly that GTA 6 could be the game to test a $100 base price, and that hypothetical bundles might reach $200. That “might” travelled through a thousand headlines, lost its qualifiers on the way, and settled into comment sections as a fact. It never was one. The storefronts have said $79.99 and $99.99 since the day the buttons went live — and on premiere day Rockstar restated the launch plan with those same two editions and nothing above them.

Paying less without getting burned

Search “GTA 6 cheap” and you will find key shops promising 20–28% off through resold codes and “pre-loaded accounts”. We do not link them, and not out of prudishness: a resold key can be region-locked, revoked after purchase, or bought with a stolen card and clawed back — and a pre-loaded account means playing someone else’s profile forever. For a game you will live in for years, that is a bad trade for twenty dollars.

The one discount that is legitimate: first-party gift cards below face value. Reputable retailers routinely sell $50 and $25 PSN or Xbox wallet cards at 10–15% off. Stack the credit on your own account, then pre-order at the official store. Same account, same pre-load, same Vintage Vice City Pack — roughly $68–72 instead of $79.99, with nothing to revoke.

The clock is the only thing left

Price: settled. Editions: settled. Date: November 19, 2026, restated by Rockstar on premiere day. What remains is the wait — and the one first run through Leonida you can never repeat. That run is what we are building for: a spoiler-safe map that opens with the game and shows you nothing you have not found yourself.
